Mini barons depicting religious figures from the Bible will be on display throughout uphill Lincoln as part of the return of the Lincoln Mystery Plays.
A total of 13 mini barons will be dressed as characters such as Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, Satan, Noah and the Virgin Mary across various locations in the Bailgate this summer.
The Mystery Plays’ Mini Barons’ Trail will be launched in Castle Hill on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30, and run through to July 10.
People who identify all 13 barons will be in with a chance of winning a free family ticket to outdoor performances in the Cathedral Cloisters over nine nights from August 3 to 13.
Mystery plays have their origins in the 10th century when monks and clergy enacted key biblical extracts in order to educate and inform their largely illiterate congregations.
They use Bible stories to tell the story of mankind from the creation to doomsday.
The Lincoln Mystery Plays have been performed at roughly four-year intervals since the company was founded in 1978.
The trail is supported by Lincoln BIG and the Bailgate Guild of Traders.
Colin Brimblecombe, director of the 2016 plays, said: “The idea to unite the two iconic institutions of the plays and the barons – which both have roots in 13th century history – was taken to revive a sense of last summer’s buzz within the city when the full-sized barons were a massive hit.”
Trail leaflets can be picked up in the Castle Hill Visitor Information Centre and Cathedral Shop plus, the form can also be downloaded at this linkShare
