The Lincoln Mystery Plays Archive & The Keith Ramsay Collection
The first known ‘modern’ Lincoln Mystery Play Cycle was performed at The Theatre Royal, Lincoln in 1968 and then in 1978, the plays were resurrected, The Lincoln Mystery Plays Company was born and productions have since then happened every 4 years (or there-abouts!)

About the Archive

The Lincoln Mystery Plays Trust Archive (incorporating the Keith Ramsay Collection) was donated to Bishop Grosseteste University in July 2014, and it has now been preserved, originally catalogued and curated by Collections Librarian, Susan Rodda, assisted by Claire Lamb.

Made up of ephemera from a variety of performances in Lincoln Cathedral and overseas, it includes more than 500 photographs, 130 press releases and reviews, 50 items of correspondence,  programmes, scripts, working scripts, posters, DVDs of productions, television reports and interviews, music CD’s, reference books and Keith Ramsay’s personal scrapbooks.

The preservation and curation consumed many hours,  £3000 worth of archival supplies, and more photo corners than we care to remember. The archive will remain in the library, but for research purposes it now falls under the auspices of the School Of Humanities.

The collection is now available to view by appointment only.

It was with great pleasure we finally got Keith and Tazza over to Bishop Grosseteste University for a visit to the Archive (24.8.18)

Due to ill health, Keith & Tazza were not able to make the opening and so it was great to see them there and let Keith reminisce about past productions.

A huge thank you to Susan Rodda at BGU’s Library for arranging this visit.
